Vacant grants competition
Cardiff University Kazakhstan announces a competition for vacant and declined educational grants available for Bachelor’s (undergraduate) degree programmes.
The competition is conducted in accordance with:
- The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 27 July 2007 No. 319-III “On Education”
- Chapter 4 “Procedure for Awarding Vacant Educational Grants for the Financing of Higher or Postgraduate Education with the Award of a ‘Bachelor’s’ or ‘Master’s’ Degree” of the Order of the Acting Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 25 August 2023 No. 443 “On Approval of the Rules for Awarding Educational Grants for the Financing of Higher or Postgraduate Education with the Award of a ‘Bachelor’s’ or ‘Master’s’ Degree”.
Vacant educational grants that become available during the course of higher and/or postgraduate education are awarded on a competitive basis subject to the availability of vacant places.
Eligible applicants
Participation in the competition is open to current fee-paying students of Cardiff University Kazakhstan. Please refer to these Regulations.
Please note: fee-paying students are eligible to apply for a vacant grant only within the same group of educational programmes in which they are currently enrolled. Applications will be considered in accordance with the applicable Regulations.
Awarding procedure
The awarding of vacant educational grants is carried out in the following order:
- Submit an application addressed to the Chair of the Management Board – Provost requesting participation in the competition and transfer to grant-funded study. Attach a copy of an identity document. The application form is available in the VLE system or via email.
- Applications are reviewed at a meeting of the Academic Council and/or the University Management Board.
- Approved documents are forwarded to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the final decision.
Selection criteria
The primary selection criterion is academic performance, determined on the basis of the cumulative average grade.
In cases of equal academic results, preference is given in accordance with the Clause 4 of the approved Regulations, including attendance.
Available vacant grant
As of the date of publication of this announcement, the following vacant educational grants are available:
- Computer Sciences: 3 grants
- Civil Engineering: 3 grants
- Exploration Geology: 2 grants
- Business Management: 1 grant
The deadline for submitting the applications is 10 August 2026 (inclusive).
Important information on State scholarship work obligations
Grant recipients are required to complete at least three years of employment in their field of study in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 17 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Education”.

The results about the reallocation of the grant will be published after the final decision of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
